The Youngstown State football team is 1-4 and over those five games are giving up more than 400 yards a game.

The Penguins hope their lapses are over with Indiana State up next at 2:00pm Saturday at Stambaugh Stadium.

"I feel like some of it is frustrating," said center Van Keen. "We have to realize we have to stay together as a team."

Senior defensive end Hunter Allen was a little more direct.

"Each day and each week things are starting to click and we're slowly stacking days and I see promising things going on with this team."

Thirteen different players have made their first career start on defense.

"Every day I see improvement and we're far from where we need to be at this point of the season," admitted head coach Doug Phillips.

But he added, "I do see improvement."

At times the Penguins have played batter in all facets but need to do it for all 60 minutes of a game.

"I just feel we haven't played complimentary football. There's time the defense has stepped up, the offense has stepped up and special teams have stepped up, but we need to bring all three together," said Keen.

Phillips echoed that, " We just haven't put it together, the sense of urgency and we have to put it together and it has to start this Saturday at 2:00 pm."
