Ellsworth house explosion damages neighboring home by shattering windows
A deadly explosion in Ellsworth Township Saturday morning rattled homes miles away, leaving one neighbor on Huxley Road picking up the pieces of her own home.
The explosion was so violent it broke all the windows in the house directly across the street, and threw the occupant of that home to the floor.
"I had just finished breakfast, sitting at my dining room table that faces the west, and the explosion blew me out of my chair and onto the ground and I heard all the glass in my house start to break," said Tracey Beardsley.
Beardsley said she was confused, thinking it was a plane crash or even an earthquake.
"I actually thought it was a small plane crash, because we live fairly close to a small airport, then I realized it was much more than that, the whole ground shook I didn't know if it was an earthquake or what," said Beardsley.
It wasn't until Beardsley was able to pick herself up off the floor and look outside at the wreckage across the street to realize what happened.
"When I stood up and came to the front of the house were all the glass was broke and I looked out across the street, I saw a big plume of smoke and realized that my neighbors house had exploded," Beardsley says.
Beardsley says the owners of the home that exploded were doing renovations, and that the explosion caused materials to fly everywhere, stretching almost a mile down the road.
"There was new insulation that was yet to be installed, it was outside, so the insulation and debris just went flying everywhere," said Beardsley.
Other neighbors were picking up family photos and household memorabilia throughout the wreckage.
"You just can't recreate how this felt, I'm still shaking," said Beardsley.
