Veteran’s Day observances begin Friday at Valley schools

BOARDMAN TWP., Ohio - Some Valley schools begin the observance of Veteran’s Day early with events honoring our nation's veterans with ceremonies, programs, and special events on November 8, 2024, and continuing through Veterans Day, November 11, with students, faculty, and families invited to participate.
Veterans Day events at Columbiana Schools begin on Friday, November 8 with a breakfast at Joshua Dixon Elementary School at 9:00 AM, followed by a program at 9:15 AM. Students will be joined by veterans from the community and their families for a morning of appreciation. The schools will continue the celebration on November 11 with additional ceremonies at Columbiana High School and Middle School. The program will include a keynote address by Bill Johnson, President of Youngstown State University and former Congressman.
Leetonia Exempted Village Schools will hold their ceremony on November 8, starting at 8:45 AM with light refreshments for veterans and their families. The ceremony will begin at 9:15 AM in the gymnasium, featuring a special slide show, student readings, and a performance by the Leetonia High School Band, which will also perform at the National Veterans Day Ceremony in Washington, D.C. on November 11. The event will honor local veterans with music and tributes to their service.
South Range Local Schools will dedicate their Field of Flags on Friday, November 8. The ceremony begins at 8:30 AM at the school's flagpole, followed by a program featuring a U.S. Air Force flyover and performances of patriotic songs by the high school choir. Dr. Marshall Bahr, a former Army Ranger and recent inductee into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame, will deliver the keynote address. Following the ceremony, first-grade students will perform a special music program in the auditorium, and a reception will be held in the cafeteria.
Boardman Schools will host a range of Veterans Day events, beginning on November 8 at Stadium Drive Elementary with a breakfast for veterans at 8:30 AM. Students have invited veterans from the community, and the school will conclude the event with a "clap-out" ceremony to honor their service. Other events in Boardman include a Veterans Luncheon at West Boulevard Elementary on November 11 at 11:00 AM, a "Lunch with a Veteran" program at Center Intermediate on November 11, and a special Veterans Lunch at Boardman High School on the same day. Finally, Robinwood Lane Elementary will host its annual Patriotic Concert on November 12 at 9:00 AM featuring third-grade students performing a selection of patriotic songs.
