The process of tearing down the Shenango Valley Mall in Hermitage is set to begin very soon.

Hermitage Director of Business and Community Development Mark Longietti tells 21 News permits to begin the demolition of the mall were approved about a week ago.

While Longietti did not know exactly when the demolition process would begin, he tells us it should be starting very soon.

Longietti tells us once the process starts, those passing by won't notice much going on at first because demolition work will begin inside of the mall and stay inside for the first few weeks.

Looking ahead, Longietti previously told 21 News he is hoping the property can be turned into a community space to host events such as the city's night markets, art shows, food trucks and much more.

Other possibilities were discussed as well including space for mini golf, a splash pad and even an amphitheater.
