Several area fire crews were busy overnight at a house fire in North Jackson.

It happened around 1:20 a.m. on Monday at a home on Gault Road.

Ellsworth Fire Chief Edward Smith says the fire began in the wood-burning chimney and worked its way to the walls.

Additional units from Canfield, North Jackson, Berlin, Green, and Milton were also on the scene.

Together, they were able to get the fire and smoke under control.

“Everything was contained to the first floor, with light smoke damage throughout the house. The fire did get under control in about 30 minutes,” according to Chief Smith, who said no one was hurt in the fire.

The homeowners initially tried to put out the fire themselves but then evacuated to safety.
