Quiet Monday ahead of a February frenzy of storms

The weather pattern has gone fast and furious this February as storms keep coming with essentially the same plot and outcome. The feisty February pattern continues as the jet stream, a fast-moving river of air high up in the sky, ushers in storm system after storm system. Like waves crashing along the shore of the Pacific Coast Highway, three storms in the next seven feels like a winter road race! Similar to the movies, I think it’s safe to say we were over it after the first two.

As we catch our breath at the start of a new week, the forecast for Monday morning is quiet and brighter. Skies will be mostly sunny, but temperatures will be chilly despite the sunshine, with readings in the low 30s. Enjoy all the sunlight you get today, as it will be limited for the rest of the week. Clouds congest the sky Monday night ahead of two different mid-week storms.

Fresh, cold air in place will keep the first of the storms a snowmaker - mostly a miss to our south. This storm is a fast-moving, uniform, straightforward snowstorm (unlike the last two freezing rain storms), as cold air is vast and plentiful. This storm will sideswipe us to our southeast late Tuesday. The Valley is positioned north of the crosshairs, which could bring light snow showers to our southern viewing area late in the day, but overall impacts will be minor. A slight shift north could bring more snow into the Valley - we will keep you posted.

Details still need to be sorted for Wednesday into Thursday. The track is key for accumulation and precipitation type, but at this point, we are looking at a windy mix of rain and snow. A wintry mix is possible for the Wednesday evening commute before changing to windswept plain rain while most sleep. A few rain showers will linger into Thursday morning, changing to blowing snowflakes as the system wraps up.

Cupid catches our tongue by Valentine's Day with a quiet and calm day. You and your sweetheart will only have to deal with a little chill. Daytime temperatures will top off near 30 degrees before dropping into the low 20s overnight. PSA: A safe flower temperature is 36° - you’ll have to cover the roses on the walk to the car from the flower shop.

A third system could barrel through by the extended weekend, bringing a rain/snow mix on Saturday and snow on Sunday.
