The Highlandtown Volunteer Fire Department in Salineville held a breakfast benefit to help support the family of a 6-year-old boy with cancer on Sunday.

Brycelynn Garrett is a kindergartener at Southern Local Elementary School. He was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma, a form of brain cancer.

Garrett has already had one operation for his tumor and will be going through more treatment in the future.

To help with the medical costs, the Highlandtown Volunteer Fire Department decided to hold the benefit to raise funds that will go towards Garrett and his family and he receives further treatment such as radiation and chemotherapy.

The cost was $10 per person and participants had a variety of food and drinks like sausage, pancakes, eggs, milk, coffee and orange juice.

Highlandtown Volunteer Fire Department trustee, Brad Gruszezki spoke on the station's willingness to help Garrett and his family stating "We try to do what we can when these things come up, so (we) thought it was a good time to try and help them out."

The benefit was held from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on February 16.
