SALEM, Ohio - The Brightside Project has officially opened the doors to its new facility in Salem, giving the nonprofit a larger, more functional space to expand its mission of supporting children and families in need.

The organization, which provides food, hygiene products, and educational support, moved into the new space in November after determining it was a better fit for their long-term goals. Executive Director Scott Lewis said the nonprofit originally planned to purchase a different building, but this facility offered a more affordable and practical solution, allowing them to grow without financial strain.

One of the most significant additions is the expansion of the food pantry, which provides families with access to free groceries and hygiene products in a welcoming, supportive environment. The new facility also includes several new spaces designed to enrich children’s lives, including a multipurpose room for community events, a gaming room, an art room, and a learning lab that introduces kids to career pathways, including opportunities in skilled trades.

Beyond providing resources, The Brightside Project aims to create a space where families can connect and receive long-term support. Co-Director Lisa Vittorio said that previously, children would stop by briefly to collect food and supplies, but the new facility allows for greater interaction between families and staff, helping to build relationships and strengthen community ties.

The additional rooms, including the gaming and art spaces, were designed to give kids a safe and creative environment where they can relax, socialize, and express themselves. Leaders say these spaces will play an important role in fostering a sense of belonging and resilience among the children they serve.

While the new facility is already making a difference, The Brightside Project is still working to add more resources and enhance its services in the months ahead.

Leaders say they are grateful for the support of the community, which made the expansion possible, and they are committed to continuing their mission of helping children build a brighter future.
