Pennsylvania - A pilot program from Pennsylvania CareerLink® in Lancaster County on Monday, April 28, provided citizens with on-the-spot access to their birth certificates.

After its initial debut the program is set to feature at CareerLink® events all across Pennsylvania including upcoming CareerLink® Awareness Days.

The initiative was organized by the Pennsylvania Departments of Labor & Industry (L&I) and Health (DOH) with goal of allowing citizens to enter the workforce more efficiently than before.

"Having access to your birth certificate shouldn't be what holds you back from starting a new job or applying for housing," said L&I Secretary Nancy A. Walker.

The event in Lancaster served Pennsylvania citizens that pre-registered as well as walk-ins.

The pilot program through CareerLink® is only one of multiple mays Pennsylvanian born citizens can access their birth certificate, albeit one of the quickest.

"DOH offers multiple options for obtaining a birth certificate, including online, through the mail, or in-person at a Vital Records public office," says Mark O'Neill, a DOH representative"

The CareerLink® pilot program is fully paid for with Wagner-Peyser, a federal employment service, funding.
