Animal Welfare League passes out sweet treats to dogs for Independence Day

Humane agents from the Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County (AWL) went around the county Friday afternoon handing out ice cream cones to dogs.
To celebrate the Fourth of July, humane agents of the AWL wanted to interact with the community in a positive way.
"I feel like it's important to nurture a positive relationship with the community. I really like seeing people's dogs every day. They bring joy to the owners and us as well, and it's a common bond that we have," said Lindsey Carson, a humane agent with the AWL.
At the time that humane agents spoke to 21 News, they had already seen a dozen dogs. They plan to be out in the community until they run out of ice cream cups.
According to Fabian Pike, Chief Humane Officer of Trumbull County, the AWL may try to make this event a yearly tradition.
"It's something that, since I've taken over the Humane Department, me and Corporal Carson, we came together on this and we felt it was a good idea. And, now that we have one of our new officers, pretty soon, we're going to start doing this every year," said Pike.
