Just a few miles down the road from the new racino, a Canadian aluminum manufacturer is investing over a hundred million dollars to build a new plant in Lordstown.

Matalco Inc., will begin construction of a new aluminum extrusion plant in the Ohio Commerce Centre on Tod Avenue.

The Canadian company, which is one of the largest independent aluminum recyclers in North America, makes extrusion grade aluminum billets or logs.

And they say Lordstown was a perfect spot for for them because of its easy access to highways and rail and it's proximity to their customers.

Robert Roscetti, of Matalco, explained what they make. "We actually produce logs and billets made out of aluminum. Just envision a long log.  will cut it down to various sizes and diameters of that log. That log is then given to our customers, the extruders. They will then extrude it down to whatever shape or size that they need."

The company is taking Lordstown up on its offer of a 10-year, 75% tax abatement.

Lordstown Mayor Arno Hill says, "They are bringing in 60-80 new jobs, probably pushing near 80, a $4 million payroll, we got the perfect site for them. We are getting jobs. We are getting investment.  We are getting help for the schools. This is great! We've been working on this for over a year and a half."

The school district stands to gain between $60,000-$80,000 a year in income and property tax revenue.

The 200,000 square foot facility is expected to be open for operation in early 2016.
