YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - A twenty-year-old Green Township man will not serve any jail time for driving a car involved n a deadly crash.
Shaun Jenkins has been placed on probation for three years after pleading guilty earlier to reckless homicide in connection with a crash that claimed life of 19-year-old Bryan Deal of Berlin Center.
Jenkins originally faced more serious charges of aggravated vehicular homicide and vehicular assault.
Deal's family told Mahoning County Common Pleas Judge R. Scott Krichbaum that they did not want Jenkins to go to jail.
State Troopers say Deal was one of the passengers in a Subaru sedan driven Jenkins during a crash on October 4, 2014.
Jenkins told investigators that he swerved to avoid a deer on Weaver Road in Berlin Township, and lost control of the vehicle.
The car struck a ditch, a utility pole, a street sign, a mailbox and a tree. Troopers report that they found the car at the crash scene in fifth gear.
Deal died later on from his injuries.
