Some Youngstown water customers dealing with dirty water

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Several families on Youngstown's south side are left wondering if their water is safe to drink.
They say it's been discolored for months and despite attempts by the city to resolve the issue, the water is still dirty.
Barbara Solosky says dirty water has been running through their Thalia Avenue home for months.
She says the city has asked that they run their water for 24 hours. The city has also flushed a nearby hydrant. And while, those remedies may resolve the problem temporarily, they say the discolored water keeps coming back.
"As long as they let the hydrant open and the water is circulating then we have clear water but then as soon as they shut the hydrant we get the dirty, cloudy, yellow water," says Solosky.
The water is now taking a toll on their clothes and their appliances and sediment is filling their drains.
"I do have a son whose on home dialysis also that I have to use a purification pack for and we have to switch those out more often than we ever did before because of the sediment that's caused by this," says Solosky.
Neighbors just down the street say they're experiencing the same problem and are getting the run-around from the city.
Margaret Porter, says, "The last time I talked to them, they said m'am we will have this problem resolved. We're going to work on it until it's done. and they worked on it and I haven't seen them work on it since."
21 News tried to contact the Youngstown Water Commissioner Wednesday to find out what is causing the water problems on Thalia but they did not return calls.
The chief engineer did say the department is doing more testing and they hope to find out more this Friday.
