The Canfield Local School Board of Education narrowed down the applicants for the superintendent position and has selected Joe Knoll. Knoll has served as the Marlington Local School District as superintendent for the past 8 years, During his tenure, he implemented a 1:1 technology plan for all students, created the Dukes Digital Academy, implemented STEM programming throughout the school district and developed an Engineering Fabrication lab.

“We chose Knoll for his extensive educational administrative experience, his commitment to innovation, and his outstanding skills in communication and relationship building,” said Dave Wilkeson, Board President.

Knoll was selected over two other candidates applying for the same position, West Branch superintendent Timothy Saxton and former Van Buren (Hancock County) superintendent Tim Myers.

“I am honored to have been selected as the next superintendent of Canfield Local Schools,” Knoll said. “Canfield has a rich tradition of academic excellence. I am looking forward to working with the Board of Education, administration, teachers, staff, and students in furthering student performance at all levels,” Knoll said.

The contract is expected to be approved at the Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, May 26. Knoll will replace Interim Superintendent John Tullio, who was filling in for Alex Geordan, the Canfield superintendent since 2102 who resigned in Dec. 2019 in the wake of criticism of how the district handled school threats and how it informed the Canfield police.

Wilkeson added, “We are excited to welcome Mr. Knoll to our Canfield community and school family. He is a proven leader and we look forward to working with him as we continue to move the district forward.”
