The retailer will have increased availability of event items to help ensure as many customers as possible can take advantage of the season’s best pricing.
Safety: By spreading deals out across multiple days and making the big sale items available online, Walmart expects the Black Friday experience in our stores will be safer and more manageable for both our customers and our associates.
In its press release, Walmart said it offers more convenient and safer ways to shop Black Friday, whether that’s from the shelf in a store, ordering online and picking it up curbside, or having it delivered right to the customer's home.
For a safer shopping experience, Walmart stores will open at 5 a.m. on Black Friday for in-store event days. Customers will form a single, straight line to enter the store. Associates will hand out sanitized shopping carts to customers to help with social distancing, and Health Ambassadors will be placed at entrances to greet customers and remind them to put on a mask.
During these in-store Black Friday events, Walmart will meter customers into the store to help reduce congestion and promote social distancing inside stores. Customers will be directed to shop down the right-hand side of aisles to be able to easily – and safely – select the Black Friday items they’re interested in purchasing.

Safety: Target has said it is adjusting our plans to make the holiday shopping experience simple, safe, and stress-free. The chain is stretching out the savings by making holiday deals available earlier.
- Contactless In-Store Payment: Guests can now use Wallet, the mobile payment option in the Target app, for a contactless self-checkout experience, eliminating the need to pick up the scanning device. That means, regardless of where guests choose to checkout in stores – through self-checkout or with one of our team members – the payment experience is contactless. Wallet conveniently brings Redcard payment, Target Circle offers weekly ad coupons, and gift cards all in one place for a single scan at checkout.
- Pre-Trip Shopping Reservations: To ensure guests have enough space to shop safely and comfortably, Target continues to monitor and, when needed, limit the total number of people inside stores at one time. This holiday, guests can visit Target.com/line to see if there is a line outside their local store, and if so, can reserve a spot in line. Target will then text the guest to notify them that it is their turn to enter the store.
- MyCheckout: The retailer is rolling out 1,000 more MyCheckout devices at its stores across the country, allowing team members to help guests check out anywhere in the store and avoid waiting in line.
Enhanced Same-Day Services: In addition to these new measures, Target is making continued investments to ensure its same-day services are faster and safer than ever, allowing guests to receive their purchases in as soon as one hour. These include:
- Double the Drive-Up Spots: Drive-Up, Target’s highest-rated service, allows guests to shop for thousands of items via the Target app and have them brought directly to their cars within minutes of arriving at the store. New this holiday season, Target is doubling the total number of Drive Up spots by adding nearly 8,000 more, making it easier for guests to access this popular service.
- Enhanced Drive-Up Experience: Target has eliminated the need for barcode scanning at Drive-Up, making it even easier for guests and team members to socially distance. Now, guests show their app to team members through their car window, with a personal identification number visible to confirm the order.
- Updated App for More Flexibility: Guests can now adjust – in real-time – if they want to pick up their items using Order Pickup or Drive Up, even after they have arrived at the store. The flexibility to switch between services at any time offers even greater convenience during the busy holiday months.
- Expanded Same-Day Assortment: For the first holiday ever, guests can use Target’s same-day services to purchase all their holiday needs, including thousands of gifts and all of the ingredients for holiday meals thanks to the nationwide expansion of fresh and frozen grocery via Order Pickup and Drive Up. And with kids’ and adult apparel now available via same-day delivery with Shipt, guests can get everything from cozy pajamas to festive looks for the family delivered straight to their door in as little as one hour.
Target is offering assurance that all “Black Friday Now” deals qualify for Target’s extended Price Match Guarantee from Nov. 1 through Dec. 24; guests can request a price adjustment for any item advertised as a “Black Friday Now” deal if it is offered for a lower price at Target or Target.com later in the season.

Kohl’s implemented several health and safety measures earlier this year to foster a safe shopping experience for all customers. Measures that will continue to be in place for the entire holiday season:
- Customers and associates are required to wear face coverings.
- Social distancing markers and signage throughout the store.
- Protective barriers at all registers and checkout lanes cleaned after every use.
- Touchless payment is available with Kohl’s Pay on the Kohl’s App.
- Crowd-control stanchions and social distancing markers will be placed at all store entrances to encourage social distancing on days with anticipated higher traffic.
- Stores will have designated entrance with additional doors available for exit on select days to control traffic flow and encourage social distancing.
- Associate greeters will be stationed at the front of the store to distribute sanitized carts, offer free masks to customers who do not have them, and limit occupancy, as appropriate.
Shopping Options: Kohls offers services including Drive Up and In-Store Pick Up, allowing customers to shop online and on the Kohl’s App and pick up their orders for free at their local Kohl’s store. With tens of thousands of items available for store pick up and orders ready within two hours or less. Drive-Up and In-Store Pick Up services will continue to be available during store operating hours during Black Friday Week.
Contactless Drive-Up: Kohl’s offers contactless drive up at most stores, allowing customers to have their Kohls.com Buy Online, Pick Up in Store, or Ship to Store orders placed directly in their trunk or backseat when they’re ready. And because the holidays are already busy enough, Kohl’s is doubling the number of Drive Up spaces at its store locations, making it fast and easy for customers to pick up their Kohls.com orders from their local store.

Best Buy will limit the number of customers allowed in stores at a time throughout the holiday season. Each store will follow all local guidelines, and we will allow a limited maximum capacity to allow for the CDC-recommended social distancing guidelines.
