Insanity plea from former Liberty woman charged with raping child

WARREN, Ohio - A former Liberty Township woman already sentenced to spend more than two decades in federal prison for child pornography convictions has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to allegations that she raped a three-year-old girl.
Candis Sue Wynn, 34-years-old, appeared before a judge in Trumbull County on Thursday where she is scheduled to go on trial for allegedly forcing a three-year-old child to engage in sex acts in late 2018 and early 2019 and allowing video to be taken of the alleged acts.
While entering the plea, Jeffrey Goodman, the attorney for the 34-year-old woman, has asked the court for a forensic evaluation to be conducted before her next court hearing scheduled for June 3.
Wynn’s trial date has been delayed from next week until July 12.
The Trumbull County Grand Jury indicted Wynn and 34-year old Daniel Parker on multiple counts of rape and pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor.
Wynn also faces charges of pandering obscenity involving a minor and illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material.
Parker, who is also charged with tampering with evidence, is already serving more than 21-and-a half years in federal prison after being convicted of sexually exploiting children and receiving pictures of children engaged in sexual conduct.
Parker has been transferred from federal prison in Arizona to the Trumbull County Jail where he awaits a May 5 pretrial hearing.
Wynn, who is serving a 25-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to sexual exploitation of a minor, receipt and distribution of child pornography, and possessing child pornography, has been transferred to the Trumbull County Jail from a low-security federal prison in Alabama.
Assistant Trumbull County Prosecutor Gabe Wildman told 21 News earlier that there is no way to convict someone of rape under federal law, so the county is pursuing the charges.
Wildman says if the two are convicted of the rape charges and sentenced to life without parole, Parker and Wynn would be transferred to state prison after completing their federal sentences.
The Trumbull County indictments are based on the same evidence used to gain the federal convictions of the pair when Wynn was accused of trading child pornography with Parker.
According to an affidavit filed in U.S. District Court, Wynn sent Parker a video of the child being sexually assaulted.
Investigators say Wynn also sent Parker other pictures and videos of children engaged in sex acts with adults.
A special agent from the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation says that Parker also sent pornographic videos to children to Wynn.
On January 8, 2019, Liberty Police searched Wynn's home, seizing her phone and other items.
Police used another search warrant later that month to confiscated two cell phones, a tablet and a sim card from Parker, who was at the Community Corrections Association halfway house on Market Street in Youngstown at the time.
In August 2018, Wynn was sentenced to six months in jail for child endangering. According to police, Wynn left her then two-year-old daughter home alone while she went to a store to buy liquor.
