Just over a week after a Green Acres apartment fire in Liberty that took the life of 4 year old Desmond Robinson over this past weekend, a North Lima restaurant is accepting donations for the family affected.

Five Branches Smokehouse in North Lima created a GoFundMe for their head chef, Jeff Robinson, who is the dad of Desmond.

Robinson spoke with 21 News Tuesday, recalling the day the fire broke out.

Robinson was watching TV at the time the fire started. He tried to put the fire out himself before waking up his friend, Greg. Greg was able to get 7 month old twins out of the apartment.

"I woke up everybody else and got them out and then I tried to go back in two different times to get the other kids and it was just physically impossible," Robinson said.

Robinson believes the fire started due to an electrical issue.

Two children, Desmond and his younger sister, Addison were trapped in the apartment until fire crews arrived.

Robinson says he's fortunate he could be with Desmond in the final days of his short life in the hospital.

"He was just very loving, innocent and always happy," Robinson said about his son. "He was a daddy's boy and always wanted to be around me."

Desmond's younger sister, Addison is expected to recover. Her dad, Greg showed 21 News dozens of photos they have as a family. Greg says the two of them were inseparable and little Addison will grow up with a personal angel always by her side.

"We started off getting necessities like clothes," said Amber Durfy, General Manager at Five Branches Smokehouse. "Now we need housing and we need furniture. We need volunteers to help us sort through everything because there's so many different families, different sizes and different kids."

"I never would have thought this would happen," Robinson said. "I've never been one in my entire life to even accept help from anyone. So, it's just kind of taken me back to see how much support there has been."
