Ohio State Highway Patrol are investigating along a median on U.S. Route 62 near Hubbard after a traffic incident left one person dead on Saturday.

Troopers say that 57-year-old Vernon Hawkins of Sharon, Pennsylvania was walking along the shoulder when he was the victim of a hit-skip crash around 2:51 a.m. An Ohio State Trooper noticed Hawkins body in the median of the road around 7:30 a.m., about five hours after the initial accident.

Officers say a driver was traveling in the eastbound lane when they struck Hawkins and left the scene. Police noticed the suspects vehicle attempting to drive around the scene on nearby Ohio State Route 7 and was traffic stopped. 

It is currently unknown if the suspect was charged in the incident.

The patch of Route 62 is nearby Flying J's Travel Center and a Dollar General location in Trumbull County.
