Youngstown, Campbell, Liberty students to receive essential eye care throughout December, January

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - 390 children attending Youngstown, Liberty and Campbell school districts will receive essential eye care over three weeks in December and January.
This was made possible through a collaboration among Sight for All United, United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley, Fitz Frames & Nouns DAO, Essilor Vision Foundation and Classic Optical Laboratories.
This is the first year children in Campbell will receive optometric services including glasses. Campbell students will receive their eye exams on Friday, Dec. 10 at 10:00 a.m. at the Community Center for Campbell (436, Struthers-Coitsville Rd. Lowellville)
Sight for All United Co-Founder, Dr. Sergul Erzurum says 34% of children fail school vision exams and 2/3 never receive an eye exam to correct their sight.
"The visual system is critical in 80% of learning to process information correctly. Only through community programs like this can we start to close the gap on learning losses," Erzurum said.
A recent study published in September's JAMA Ophthalmology shows that students in grades three through seven who received eyeglasses through a school-based vision program achieved better reading scores and improved academic achievement.
