YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Mercy Health has announced Tuesday afternoon that it will no longer be requiring its employees to be vaccinated against COVID-19.

A statement released by Mercy Health says that the vaccine will no longer be required, but is still strongly recommended for all Youngstown employees.

"This does not change how we feel about the COVID-19 vaccine. It is safe, highly effective and how we will move beyond this pandemic," the statement said.

Mercy Health is taking this step in order to maintain safe staffing in its markets to respond to the needs of its communities.

This announcement comes less than a week after the company had announced that it would be requiring its employees to be vaccinated.
