Officials in Niles are making corrections after a fuel switch made some city-owned vehicles operate improperly.

An urgent call went out Wednesday morning urging police and other employees not to fill up their vehicles at the city’s gas pump.

Safety Director George Kaniclides said that the city stopped using the gasoline until they could determine whether or not the fuel is responsible for the problem.

A spokesman for the Police Department told 21 News that officials learned later that the fuel supplier accidentally filled the gasoline storage tank with diesel fuel.

The company came out to empty the storage tank and refill it with the proper fuel.
