An incredible run for the Kennedy Catholic girls basketball team fell one game short of the ultimate goal, but the Golden Eagles are the Class 1A State runner up.

Kennedy Catholic fell to Northumberland 66-54 from the Giant Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania Thursday.

The Golden Eagles made the program's deepest run in 21 years with the trip to Hershey, the third trip in school history for the girls.

KC was led by freshman Layke Fields who scored 21 points. Senior Bellah DiNardo added 14 more and Paris Gilmore scored another 10 for the Golden Eagles.

Kennedy Catholic and Northumberland were tied 18-18 at the end of the first quarter. KC outscored Northumberland 18-13 in the second quarter to take a 36-31 lead into the locker room. But Northumberland responded out of the break, outscoring the Golden Eagles 18-8 in the third quarter and 17-10 in the fourth, for the 12 point win.

Emily Garvin scored a game-high 35 points for Northumberland Christian, hitting on 9-20 shots from the field.

Head Coach Justin Magestro told 21 Sports post-game, the future is bright for this program, and they'll be motivated going forward.

"We have a lot of young kids that are going to use this as a valuable learning lesson, that you got to play 32 minutes in order to win a state championship. This will motivate us to get back here and I promise you we're going to be hungrier trying to get back here next year."
