Mathews' softball standout Emma Gates is continuing her academic and athletic career. 

Gates is signing with Fairmont State to continue her softball career. 

She is entering her senior season with the Mathews softball team and coming off an impressive year both on the mound and at the plate. 

Gates sported a 12-2 record last season with a 1.02 ERA to go along with 148 strikeouts. 

At the plate she blasted 10 home runs with a .589 average.
