Mill Creek MetroParks receives $175K donation for Lake Newport trail improvements
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - More improvements are planned for Mill Creek MetroParks following a large donation from a local family.
The $175,000 gift from the John & Joanne Beeghly Family will be used for the refurbishment of the trail system surrounding Lake Newport.
MetroParks officials say the money will be used for trail restoration and trailhead enhancements.
The gift supports a $250,000 capital campaign for the primitive trails known as the Newport Loop.
Other planned improvements include new drainage systems along the trails, surface improvements, erosion control and improvements to the existing walls, borders and step stones which were built in the 1930s.
This project is part of a $20 million comprehensive campaign to add $10 million in donated funding towards capital improvements and $10 million towards endowments for the long-term care and preservation of the MetroParks.
