1997: Heather Nicole Busin, 20, a native of Poland and a sophomore at Grove City College, is named Miss Pennsylvania following a pageant at Bethlehem. She will represent the state in the Miss America pageant in September.
 
Dr. Bruce M. Rothschild, director of the Arthritis Center of Northeast Ohio in Boardman has discovered the first known case of a dinosaur having gout.
 
Two Youngstown Board of Education members want the state auditor's office to re-examine the district's finances in hopes of getting out of the fiscal emergency and disbanding the state commission overseeing operations. 
 
1982: Democrat Richard F. Celeste will face Republican Clarence Brown in November, following their wins in competitive primary elections. 
 
State Rep. Ronald Gerberry, a Democrat, and  Atty. Warren Pritchard, a Republican, both from Austintown, will vie in November to represent the newly drawn 71 st Ohio House district. 
 
Hubbard Mayor Arthur Magee stuns incumbent Democrat Ted Vanelli in the race for the Democratic nomination for Trumbull County commissioner. Frank Adgate is the Republican nominee. 
 
1972: Frank A. Nemec, president of Youngstown Sheet & Tube Co., calls for a renewed effort to build a Lake-to-River canal that could save Youngstown's badly eroded steel industry.
 
An out-of-control car crashes onto a porch at 1157 South Street in Warren, killing Carol Cline, 28.
 
Bishop James W. Malone announces new assignments for 25 priests in the Youngstown Diocese, including six pastors, the Revs. Arthur DeCrane, John Dailey, Joseph W. Rushton, William Bantz, Blaine Pierce, and Msgr. Donald J. Reagan. 
  
 
1947: The death toll from a tornado that swept through Vienna and Sharon rises to six with 100 homes destroyed, 700 damaged and losses estimated at $1.5 million.
 
"Sister Sue" the make-believe girl who reads The Vindicator funnies over WFMJ Radio is retiring. In real life, she is June Kronemer, and she's moving to Cleveland with her husband, radio announcer Dave Wright. 
 
Pilot Warren "Buss" Hanson of New Castle sustains serious injuries and his passenger, Lewis Cunningham, suffers bruises when their Vultee trainer crashes at Youngstown's Bernard Airport after striking a power line.
