YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Eastern Gateway Community College has been granted a preliminary injunction against the U.S. Department of Education's Cease & Desist against the school's Free College Benefit Program prohibiting new enrollments and causing uncertainty for current students as to whether they can finish their current programs.

The community college filed a lawsuit and sought injunctive relief arguing that the Cease & Desist action had been taken without affording the college administrative process, causing the college and its students irreparable harm.

Judge James L. Graham granted the preliminary injunction, which will allow the school to open Spring 2023 registration on Tuesday, October 25 for current students and for new students shortly after.

"Our focus has been on getting answers for our students and employees. We are happy that students can plan for the Spring 2023 semester and concentrate on their studies," said College President, Michael Geoghegan.

The Spring 2023 semester is scheduled to begin January 9.
