The United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley announced a record-breaking fundraising number for the 2022 year.

The non-profit raised $6.6 million last year. $3,628,879 was raised through the organization's traditional campaign and another $3 million came from grant funding.

All the money raised by United Way stays in the Mahoning Valley to fund early education programs and emergency services.

United Way funds a number of programs like afterschool programs, Saturday of Caring Food Giveaway, Imagination Library, Success By 6 and 35 non-profit agencies.

"United Way must be there for those in need in different and improved ways," said Bob Hannon, President of the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley. "Not only have we diversified revenue by attracting more corporate donors and grant funding, but we also needed to be innovative on how we help the students and families across the Valley."

Roxanne Sebest, Director of Marketing for United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley spoke with Madison Tromler on 21 News at 5 about the record-setting total.
