Youngstown man 'critical' in hospital burn unit after apartment fire

A resident of a Youngstown apartment complex is in critical condition at a hospital burn unit in Akron following a fire just after 5:30 a.m. Friday.
According to Youngstown Fire Department Battalion Chief John Lightly, smoke was reported coming from a second-floor unit of the Broadway Park apartments on Broadway Avenue on the city’s Northside.
Once inside, a firefighter rescued a man who was suffering from burns.
Firefighters found that the unit’s sprinkler system was not only doing a good job bringing the fire under control but cooling off the burn victim.
The resident was taken to Mercy Hospital Downtown, before being flown by medical helicopter to Akron where he is being treated for serious burns on his torso and arms.
Investigators are hoping to talk to the victim to help them find out how the fire started.
