The City of Youngstown will be celebrating its 227th birthday on Thursday, June 22.

The city was founded on June 27, 1796, but the Mahoning Valley Historical Society will be celebrating that date a little early this time around with a birthday bash for the city scheduled for Thursday, June 22.

Folks can gather at the Arms Family Museum at 5 p.m. on Thursday to enjoy some complimentary cake and refreshments.

After that, members of the Mahoning Valley Historical Society and Youngstown CityScape will lead walking tours to take a look at the past, present and future of Wick Avenue.

The event is free and open to the public.
