A child has died in Central Ohio after being struck by a pickup truck.

It happened Friday around 8 p.m. on Eby Road in Milton Township, Wayne County.

According to the release, a Ford F-150 was traveling southbound on Eby Road from State Route 604. The 15-month-old child was standing in the road there when he was struck by the F-150.

Fire and EMS personnel and Life Flight were called to the scene and the child was flown to Akron Children's Hospital where he died the following day.

State Troopers say the child walked away from a nearby home and the 17-year-old caregiver was unaware that the child was in the road.

The crash and the events leading up to the child's death are under investigation.
