Foxconn EV System LLC has been granted a draft permit to install air pollution control Thursday at the Lordstown facility.

According to the application, Foxconn applied for the permit asking to increase its projected vehicle production in Lordstown to 350,000 yearly. According to the application, Foxconn is looking to produce a variety of vehicles, including electric if the permit is approved.

The draft permit states that the company is seeking to install an e-coat line system and a primer surface coating line. The facility is also looking to add a thermal oxidizer to control emissions from the new lines to be built within the plant.

A draft permit means that the paperwork has been reviewed by the Ohio EPA, and a public meeting may be called for public input on the project. A request for a public hearing must be submitted within 30 days from the date of publication.

Written comments on the draft permit must be received by Aug. 25 and sent to Larry Maline, Ohio EPA Northeast District Office, 2110 E Aurora Road, Twinsburg, OH 44087; or by email at DAPCNE.comments@epa.ohio.gov

John McElroy, an analyst for Autoline, told 21 News that based on proposed expansion inside the facility, he feels that Foxconn must be confident that it will be able to secure enough vehicle production, whether with the previously announced Fiskar vehicle or another vehicle contract, to fill up the plant.
