City of Farrell hosting second annual Holiday kickoff event

FARRELL, Pa. - The city of Farrell is getting into the Christmas spirit with their second annual holiday kickoff event Wednesday evening.
Santa and Mrs. Claus will start things off when they arrive at the Farrell Municipal building on a city fire truck at 5 p.m.
There will also be a special mailbox that kids can drop their letters to Santa off in, as well as the materials needed for kids to write a letter.
Santa and Mrs. Claus will also have special treats for the kids, and there will be cookies and refreshments available in the Farrell municipal rotunda for everyone.
The event is put on by the Farrell Recreation Committee and the Farrell Fire Department. While the event is only in it's second year, it was previously an annual event years ago, but was recently started back up in 2022 when Monica Scott took over as Farrell Recreation Committee chair.
In previous years, before the city stopped hosting the event, Scott would dress as a elf with other Farrell High School cheerleaders for the event.
This year, money was donated to the Farrell Recreation board through an anonymous donor for staff to wear holiday costumes and help pass out treats to the kids.
The event wraps up around 7 p.m., and will feature a special "surprise" holiday guest.
