Youngstown church celebrates its 100th anniversary

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - A Ukrainian Orthodox church in Youngstown celebrated its 100th anniversary with a weekend-long celebration event.
Sts. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church on North Belle Vista Avenue in Youngstown celebrated its 100th anniversary kicking the festivities off Friday, September 13 and continuing them into Sunday, September 15.
The church was decorated with banners commemorating the occasion at the entrance and also showed off its newly-constructed bell tower, which sits adjacent to the church.
Events included celebratory meals as well as a special service.
Pastor Mykola Zomchak said this event marks a significant milestone for the parish.
"We are celebrating 100 years not only of the parish being established and the accomplishments that we've made, but it's 100 years of being able to develop a relationship with God," Zomchak said.
Zomchak added that Sts. Peter & Paul is an open church, so anyone can come in and worship and pray with the congregation.
"Even though the church comes from the people of Ukraine, it's Orthodox Christianity. It's open to all the nations. Everyone, no matter the language, no matter what the ethnicity is," Zomchak said.
