Columbiana South Side Middle School named 2024 Blue Ribbon School

The U.S. Department of Education has named Columbiana South Side Middle School (CMS) one of its 2024 Blue Ribbon Schools in Ohio.
The school was among just 14 Ohio schools that received the honor and is the only school in the Mahoning Valley to have received it this year.
According to a press release from the Department of Education, the Blue Ribbon Award recognizes schools that excel in academic performance or make significant strides in closing achievement gaps among different student groups.
CMS Principal Jason Martin released a statement congratulating the school and its staff for all they've done to make receiving this honor possible.
"Through the collective work of each of you, we meet students where they are. I appreciate each of you and your daily efforts to help our students find success, providing high expectations while also offering comfort and a positive school culture in which all students can thrive," Martin said.
U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona says the award is a testament to the achievements of students and educators of the schools that received the award.
"The 2024 National Blue Ribbon Schools are raising the bar for our nation's students, serving as models for effective teaching and intentional collaboration in their schools and communities," Cardona said.
