COLUMBUS, Ohio - Two Valley school districts have received a combined $1.3 million in state funding to upgrade their equipment and provide students with in-demand skills for local jobs.

United Local Schools in Columbiana County was awarded $744,464.51 to enhance its agriculture and construction programs. Valley STEM + ME2 Academy in Mahoning County received $649,018.00 to improve its advanced manufacturing and engineering labs.

The funding comes from the second round of the Career Technical Education Equipment grant program, according to Senator Al Cutrona. Through both rounds, 16,875 students will gain access to career technical education at 91 schools throughout Ohio.

Valley STEM + ME2 Academy Principal Andrew Hampton expressed gratitude for the grant, saying it would provide students with “hands-on training using state-of-the-art equipment.”

The grant is part of Ohio’s broader effort to address workforce shortages and prepare students for local job markets.
