Feed Our Valley: Warren's Community Volunteer Council holding International Volunteer Day Food Giveaway on Thursday
The weekly food giveaway organized by the Community Volunteer Council in Warren is being held on Thursday during International Volunteer Day.
The CVC, a non-profit organization celebrating its 45th anniversary, provides services to the community, including weekly food distributions, clothing assistance, and holiday toy and coat giveaways.
"We serve approximately 150 individuals and families per week," said Heather Kapluck, Administrative Assistant for the CVC. "This year, our regular Thursday food giveaway falls on International Volunteer Day, and we'd love to raise awareness about our organization and the need in our community."
The CVC's food distribution begins at 11:00 am on Thursdays. Due to high demand, cars often line up on Penn Ave. as early as 8:00 am. Volunteers unload and organize food donations received from Second Harvest Food Bank.
"Our amazing volunteers work together as a team," Kapluck explained. "We have a group filling boxes with fresh produce, dairy, meat, and other essentials, while another group loads them directly into client vehicles. Most families served by the CVC reside in Trumbull County, but the organization also assists residents from Mahoning County, Pennsylvania, and even the Cleveland area."
The CVC emphasizes its commitment to helping those in need. "We try not to turn anyone away," Kapluck said. "We are always grateful for volunteers and donations, as our program continues to expand to meet the growing need in our valley."
