Man who vandalized Youngstown church statues back in jail

A Warren man convicted of vandalizing sixteen religious statues at a Youngstown church four years ago is back in jail for an alleged probation violation.
Caleb Vancampen, who turns 25 next week, was accused of destroying statues outside of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in February 2021, causing around $100,000 in damage. Some of the statues appeared to be struck by bricks and others were decapitated.
After pleading guilty to criminal damaging, VanCampen was ordered to take part in a one-to-five-year intervention program that involves counseling and treatment, instead of going to jail.
Vancampen was booked into the Trumbull County Jail on January 8 for failing to attend a hearing in Warren Municipal Court on charges filed by State Troopers for an incident back in September.
While the court dismissed misdemeanor counts of DUI and failure to control, a felony charge of drug possession is being considered by the Trumbull County Grand Jury.
Vancampen has since been transferred to the Mahoning County Jail where he remains held without bond awaiting a March 5 hearing before Judge Anthony D’Apolito on the probation violation.
In July 2023, Vancampen admitted to another probation violation and was ordered by the court to continue treatment.
