YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - The Youngstown Diocese is reviewing a popular gift card fund raising program used by Catholic schools.

A two page letter from Diocesan Superintendent Nicholas Wolsonovich to parents says the Diocese is evaluating the manner in which the so-called SCRIP program is operated at St. Charles School.

The letter says the investigation was spurred by information provided to the Diocese and Boardman police.

Among other findings, an independent audit of the program found a lack of oversight of the program, insufficient record keeping, and deficient financial reporting.

Results of the audit have been forwarded to the Boardman Police Department.

The letter says the diocese is waiting to hear from the police and will report back to parents.
