PITTSBURGH (AP) - The sheriff in Pittsburgh and one in a neighboring county are reporting a surge of gun carry permit applications in the wake of the Paris terror attacks.

Allegheny County Chief Deputy Kevin Kraus tells the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review (http://bit.ly/20ZTQ2v ) on Tuesday that "there's been a significant increase, which usually occurs after incidents such as in Paris."

The sheriff, based in Pittsburgh, processed 104 permits on Monday, more than double the daily average of 50. The sheriff posted a Facebook message on Tuesday apologizing for people who can't get through to the Firearms Division due to "an exorbitant amount of calls."

Sheriff John Held in neighboring Westmoreland County says his office processed 46 permit requests Monday, up from an average of 30. The office was busy again Tuesday.
