STRUTHERS, Ohio - Struthers city leaders will hear what the public thinks tonight about what one councilman is calling a proposed city wide parking ban.

A 6 p.m., hearing at city hall will take input on a possible solution to problems posed by on street parking in the city.

Councilman-at-large Michael Patrick says the city has experienced repeated issues caused by people parking along streets.

The city has solicited feedback from trash companies and ambulance services to learn about their experiences in coping with parking along streets.

Patrick says council began looking at the potential ban more than a year ago after the city received several complaints, including one in September where a school bus side swiped a parked car on Runge Avenue.

Some possible exceptions to the ban would be homes with no driveways, driveways with one spot or limited parking, or those visiting family or friends for a short period of time.

While the ban idea is only in its infancy, council has considered the idea of residents paying a small yearly fee to park on the street.

Tonight's hearing is the first of three scheduled on the matter.
