Two people were sent to the hospital after their car went off a Newton Falls highway overnight and went unnoticed until a passer-by spotted them after daybreak.

Troopers said they received the call around 7:35 am.

The car veered down an embankment and into the woods about 65 feet off Route 534 and East River Road south of Carson Salt Springs Road in Newton Falls.

The first rescue squad on the scene had to remove the two victims who were trapped in the car so they could be taken to the hospital.

Troopers said 84-year-old Charles Braucher and his passenger, 48-year-old Tanya Cetina, both of Warren, are being treated for facial injuries that are non-life threatening.

The Southington Post of the State Highway Patrol is investigating.

There's no word yet on if the victims will be cited.
