Youngstown playgrounds, pavilions, pools remain closed

YOUNGSTOWN - People waiting for most of Youngstown’s parks, playgrounds, pavilions, pools, and splash pads to reopen will have to wait longer.
Parks and rec director Dawn Turnage announced on Friday that although Ohio Governor Mike Dewine is permitting outdoor parks to reopen, the city continues working to find ways to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
As a result, the parks and recreation department is canceling or closing the following activities and facilities until further notice:
- Park pavilion rentals canceled
- Outdoor pavilions and restrooms closed
- Northside Pool closed
- Splash Pads closed
- Eugenia Atkinson Recreation Center closed
- Henry Stambaugh Golf Course closed
- Playgrounds and playground equipment closed
- Basketball courts closed
- City park workout equipment closed
Although DeWine said that day camps and residential camps could open at any time, Turnage says her department is still working with health officials to replace the traditional setting of the Summer Camp Program with some type of recreational activities.
Walking trails remain open using social distancing.
