The Democratic National Convention began Monday night, not with giant crowds and balloon drops, but with recorded speeches shown online and on network television stations.

One of those speeches came from a well-known Republican.

Back in 2016, Governor John Kasich ran for President and did not do well against Donald Trump, only winning one state in the primary. That, of course, being Ohio. Ever since that time, Kasich has been an outspoken critic of Trump.

When convention coverage began, the telecast started with voices from everyday Americans, each speaking out for change. Among them, Volant farmer Rick Telesz who discussed tariffs.

"My biggest concern is if these trends continue with this type of leadership, I will be the last generation farming this farm," said Teesz.

Since leaving the governor's office, John Kasich has been serving as a contributor to CNN, mostly used in segments to criticize the President and his policies.
In his four-minute recorded segment in the convention special, he said he'd known Joe Biden for over 30 years.

"I know Joe is a good man, a man of faith, a unifier, someone who understands the hopes and dreams of the common man and common woman, a man who can help us see the humanity in each other," said Kasich.

Kasich said America couldn't take another four years of Trump, and that's why he's stepped across party lines to endorse Biden.

"No one person or party has all the answers but what we do know is we can do better than what we've seen to date for sure, and I know Joe Biden, with his experience, wisdom, and decency can bring us together to help find that better way," added Kasich.

He says people should not worry about Biden taking a sharp turn toward the extreme left if elected.

"No one pushes Joe around. Joe Biden is a man for our times, times that call for us to take off our partisan hats and put our nation first for ourselves and for our children," said Kasich.

The Ohio Republican Party released a statement Monday on Kasich's appearance, saying in part, "As the former Governor of Ohio, John Kasich should want Ohioans to have more money in their pockets and should applaud policies that benefit them and their families. His alliance with the Democrats, and their radical ideologies, is despicable."
