Tuesday service planned in Youngstown on anniversary of George Floyd murder

YOUNGSTOWN - A Valley police reform group is planning a memorial service on the first anniversary of the death of George Floyd Jr.
The Next Steps Coalition on Police Reform will gather to honor the memory of George Floyd on Tuesday, May 25 at noon.
The public is invited to the event which is scheduled to take place in the parking lot of Union Baptist Church located at 528 Lincoln Avenue.
The Next Steps Coalition is a partnership between clergy, community leaders, and concerned citizens advocating for police reform and greater accountability in law enforcement.
The group has held town hall meetings to air community concerns, testimonials of mistreatment, police reform, and protocol review.
Floyd Jr. was an African American man who died during a confrontation with police in Minneapolis investigating a complaint from a store clerk who said he passed a counterfeit $20 bill.
Derek Chauvin, one of four police officers on the scene, knelt on Floyd's neck and back for 9 minutes and 29 seconds. Chavin was convicted of Floyd’s murder.
