Liberty assault suspect arrested after 3-hour standoff on roof

Police from Liberty and Youngstown spent part of late Monday and early Tuesday trying to coax a wanted man from the roof of a home on Youngstown’s East Side.
According to court records, Liberty Police were trying to arrest 26-year-old Brian Butler Jr. on charges of felonious assault, disrupting public services, theft, aggravated menacing, and unlawful restraint.
The charges stem from a weekend incident in the township.
Police tracked down Butler to Kimmel and Scioto Streets at around 11 p.m. Monday, where they found him on the roof of a home, refusing to come down.
Youngstown Police were called to help.
After a nearly three-hour standoff, Police say Butler climbed down a ladder and was taken to the Trumbull County Jail.
Investigators say they recovered a stolen car and a gun associated with the case.
