The chief of the Jamestown, Pennsylvania Volunteer Fire Department, accused of shooting a Greenville man, is held in the Mercer County Jail on a $1 million bond.

State Police arrested 54-year-old David Earl Jones early Sunday for allegedly wounding 31-year-old Tyler Schadt. Mercer County District Attorney Peter Acker tells 21 News that Jones is the local fire chief.

The victim, who police say was shot in the neck during a domestic argument on the 200 block of Chestnut Street in Jamestown at around 1 a.m., was taken to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh.

State Police Major Case investigators say Jones got a gun from his car and shot Schadt, who police say is expected to recover.

According to the fire department's website, Jones joined the department in 1984.

Jones was arraigned before a District Magistrate on charges of attempted homicide and aggravated assault. Another court hearing is scheduled for June 23.
