YOUNGSTOWN -  A firefighter was injured early Wednesday battling flames at a home on Youngstown’s South Side.

Crews were called out just before 1:30 a.m. to investigate a report of smoke in the area of West Myrtle Avenue and Hillman Street.

A two-story home was found burning on the 100 block of Myrtle. Once inside, firefighters found the home filled with trash stacked from the floor to the ceiling.

Firefighters were ordered to evacuate the home as flames spread from the basement to the second floor and one firefighter fell from a porch, injuring his back. His injuries are not serious.

Crews went back inside after more manpower arrived to help.

There is no word on the cause of the fire which heavily damaged the home.

It is not clear yet if anyone was living at the home, although Dominion told investigators that they had no active gas account at the address.
