NEWTON FALLS, Ohio - Newton Falls Council accepted the resignation of its village manager tonight.

After more than an hour and a half in executive session, David Lynch resigned from his position after the council voted last week to terminate his contract.

In an approved agreement, Lynch will receive a severance package of $113,000.

He will also be paid for unused sick time.

The city also agreed to pay the COBRA fee to extend Lynch's health care for six months.

"WE SET IT UP AS A MUTUAL RESIGNATION TO WHERE HE CAN MOVE ON WITH WHATEVER HE WANTS TO DO IN LIFE, AND WE CAN BRING SOMEBODY IN AND KEEP EVERY THING POSITIVE," said Mayor Ken Kline.

Lynch will continue working for ten days.

Then an interim city manager will fill the role, while a committee is formed to select candidates.

There was language on the agenda to discuss Police Chief Gene Fixler, but the mayor says this meeting was not the time for that discussion.
