WARREN, Ohio - Second Baptist Church in Warren will be celebrating its 105th anniversary on the first weekend on November.

Pastor, Todd Johnson says he is honored to be a part of the church's rich history.

"It's an amazing feeling to be part of such a rich legacy and to know that Second Baptist plays such a crucial role in the history of Black people in the Mahoning Valley," Johnson said.

Founded in 1916, Second Baptist is the oldest Black Baptist church in Trumbull County, as well as one of the oldest buildings constructed by Black people in the area.

To celebrate 105 years, the church will be hosting two events.

The first event will be the 105th Anniversary Gala on Friday, Nov. 5 at 6:30 p.m. at Packard Music Hall. The black-tie affair will feature dinner, special presentations honoring 50-year members and those over 80, as well as desserts and dancing with live band, "Gentelectual."

Tickets are $55 for single and $100 for couple. Tickets can be purchased online, after worship services or by calling 330-393-0802. No tickets will be sold at the door.

Souvenir books are also available in memory or honor of former church members, as well as business and congratulatory ads. Full table rates that include a full-page ad are available at a discount. Those interested in purchasing an ad or table can contact the church office.

The second event will be a special Homecoming anniversary service on Sunday, Nov. 7 at 10:00 a.m. at the church. Rev. Dr. Otha Gilyard, pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church in Columbus and past President of the Ohio Baptist Convention will act as a guest speaker at the event.
