Water main break temporarily closes Youngstown police department to public

A water pipe burst at the Youngstown Police Department over the weekend, leaving four floors worth of damages behind. Officers say the effects were disastrous.
"It's extensive damage from the fourth floor of the police department, all the way down to the garage," said Youngstown Police Captain Jason Simon. "Basically one quadrant of the building has pretty catastrophic damage," he said.
A fire water and clean up company called ServPro was on the scene for most of the day, making an effort to dry the building and prevent mildew from forming.
For the time being, Boardman street between Market and Hazel will be closed to allow ServPro to work safely.
Additionally, The Youngstown Police Department will be closed to the public for the next three to five days.
"They'll be local traffic only to these streets being the businesses, so, the news station, the police department, YMHA and the county offices will obviously be allowed to have their traffic," said Captain Simon.
City officials tell 21 News they're going to take their time and get the job done correctly.
"Our number one priority is for a safe work environment for the men and women of this department," said Commissioner of Buildings and Grounds for the City of Youngstown, Kevin Flinn. "So, we're not gonna speed or rush anything, or cut any corners," he said.
Captain Simon says 9-1-1 will still be fully operational.
If anyone needs to file a police report while the building is closed, Captain Simon advises calling the non-emergency line and they'll dispatch an officer to your home.
